Sudden Death Is Not Uncommon

Every time in the social news to see “XX years old young people died suddenly” news, in the sigh of regret at the same time, we can not help but ask: why sudden death to find the young people, and even become “common”. Lamenting the loss of life at the same time, we do not also need to be vigilant about the occurrence of sudden death, and reflect on the unhealthy, irregular habits.

Sudden death is not uncommon.

Sudden death is the regrettable and sudden arrival of an illness. It is defined as the sudden death of a normally healthy or seemingly healthy patient due to a natural disease in an unexpectedly short period of time. In medicine, sudden death is categorized into sudden cardiac death and non-cardiac death. Sudden cardiac death is one of the most frequently reported types, and has been the cause of death for many celebrities. Sudden cardiac death is defined as a natural death due to a variety of cardiac causes, with a sudden onset and rapid progression, with death occurring within one hour of the onset of symptoms.

Sudden death, regardless of age

Data show that the vast majority of sudden exercise deaths are associated with cardiovascular problems. In general, the leading cause of sudden exercise death in people between the ages of 35 and 40 is coronary heart disease. In contrast, the most common causes of sudden exercise death in young people younger than 35 are hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and congenital coronary artery anomalies, followed by myocarditis, arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy, mitral valve prolapse, coronary artery disease, aortic stenosis, dilated cardiomyopathy, arrhythmias caused by ion channel disease, aortic coarctation and other congenital heart diseases.

Unlike older people whose sudden deaths are mostly caused by coronary heart disease, young people have fewer early warning symptoms of sudden death, with only 29% of patients having prodromal symptoms such as chest tightness and discomfort; at the same time, the causative factors of sudden death are unclear, with only 14% of patients’ sudden deaths being induced by exercise. The most common causes of sudden death among young people are lethal arrhythmia (31%), coronary artery disease (22%), and hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (14%). In recent years, sudden death has also become a mortality threat for young people due to increased work pressure and faster pace of life.

Sudden death is not so far away.

When young people stay up late, they often joke that if they don’t go to bed, they will die suddenly. It is clear that the public recognizes that staying up late for a long time increases the risk of death. In addition to congenital and acquired diseases, for young and middle-aged people, poor lifestyle and habits can be a trigger for sudden death. Chronic lack of sleep is the bait of death. The heart is one of the most important organs in the human body, and its vibration is the embodiment of life, but for the heart that works hard every day, it needs to be rested at night when it sleeps. We all know that the ideal amount of sleep for a person is 6.5-8 hours. Death is related to sleep duration in a U-shaped curve; too little or too much increases the risk of death. Therefore, chronic sleep deprivation increases the risk of both coronary heart disease and stroke as well as sudden death.

Some people use coffee as a “renewal coffee” is also unscientific, because although the spirit of the moment, but the sympathetic nervous excitement will increase the heart rate, increase the burden on the heart. There are also people who think that staying up late and then catching up on sleep will keep them away from risk, but in fact, when the physiological rhythm is disrupted and the quality of sleep is insufficient, the risk of coronary heart disease will also increase. In the case of sudden death, there is also a category is to stay up late + when a long time sedentary situation, the two superimposed will increase the risk of lower extremity venous thrombosis, if the thrombus off with the blood flow embolism pulmonary artery, will also lead to sudden death.

For urban office workers, excessive exercise is also a cause of sudden death. When people do more than the body’s ability to exercise, the danger is slowly approaching, when people in strenuous exercise, the sympathetic nerve is extremely excited, myocardial contraction force to strengthen the heart rate accelerated, blood pressure rises to meet the physiological needs. But this leads to cardiac electrophysiological activity disorders, it is easy to ventricular fibrillation and other fatal arrhythmia, sudden death occurs. This is why it is important to warm up sufficiently before starting exercise. In addition, it is important to keep in mind that moderate amounts of water, energy and electrolytes should be replenished during exercise in order to maintain normal physiological functions of the body. At the same time, exercise within a reasonable exercise interval, do not try to be brave, and once symptoms such as pallor, cyanosis of the lips, profuse sweating, fainting, chest pain, chest tightness, chest pressure, dizziness, headache, extreme fatigue, and so on, exercise should be terminated immediately.

In the face of every life lost, we are sorry. In order to have fewer such regrets, we urgently need to pay attention to heart health. Some of the patients with sudden cardiac death will have precursor symptoms, such as chest tightness, chest pain, and recurrent syncope. Even without these symptoms, ECG, cardiac ultrasound and other tests will have certain positive findings. Therefore, when symptoms such as recurrent syncope, severe chest tightness, chest pain, and fatigue occur, it is important to consult a doctor in a timely manner and not to take it lightly. In addition, as a means of prevention, physical examination should also be on the agenda, early detection of existing problems, to add a safeguard for their own health.
