After a lighter non-ablative treatment, temporary redness, warmth, dryness, or mild swelling may settle within hours or several days. After ablative resurfacing, the skin may ooze, crust, peel, and remain visibly pink for longer. Complete color normalization can take weeks or months in some patients.

Common aftercare advice may include:

Cleanse and moisturize only as instructed

Do not pick, scrub, or remove peeling skin

Use broad-spectrum sun protection once permitted

For swelling that fluctuates, adequate sleep, allergy management, reduced excess salt or alcohol, and a cool compress may help. New, one-sided, painful, itchy, or persistent swelling should be medically assessed rather than treated as a cosmetic issue.

Skin Care

Moisturizer and sunscreen can support the skin barrier and reduce further sun damage. Caffeine-containing products may temporarily make morning puffiness look less noticeable for some people. Creams cannot remove protruding orbital fat or substantial excess skin.

Lower Blepharoplasty

Lower-eyelid surgery can remove or reposition fat and, when necessary, address excess skin. A transconjunctival approach uses an incision inside the lower eyelid and leaves no external skin incision, but it is not appropriate for every patient and does not by itself remove loose outer skin.
